GEM Training & Education

At GEM we are passionate about education and have launched a seperate training business to support our ongoing commitments in this space. We believe education is the foundation to social mobility and the catalyst which changes people's lives. That's why it is an important part of our corporate social responsibility policy. We will strive to support, promote and facilitate education in any way we can, from personal development guidance for our candidates, brokerage of funded training support for all stakeholder groups we engage with, investment in the personal development of our own people and proactive engagement in the community education agenda.

Some of the things we are doing at present:

  • Launch of a dedicated training business, offering a range of pre-employment, apprenticeship and specialist training programs.
  • Engagement of modern apprentices within GEM. A number have successfully transferred to permanent members of the team.
  • Personal development plans for all members of the GEM team. Internal and externally supported training and qualifications.
  • Director involvement in community education - school governor and the community foundation.
  • Facilitation of local business and sporting role models to attend schools and deliver inspirational talks.
  • Support to all 3 North East university careers departments, attendance at career events and personal support to graduates.
  • Support to career planning with a number of East Durham schools, interview and cv tips etc.
  • Work experience within GEM.
  • Vocational training links and pathways to employment.
  • Partnerships with a range of community enterprises such as Working Links and A4E.
