The Role:

The BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems Business are now looking to appoint an established Engineering leader, to provide leadership to an experienced Hardware Engineering team, delivering market leading technical solutions from their State-of-the-art facility in Gateshead. This individual will play a hands-on role in the development of hardware product and technology development for power electronics projects for a broad range of vehicle electrification applications, whilst managing and inspiring the functional resource and collaborating widely across the organisation to ensure project and program milestones and budgets are achieved.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

• Being a figurehead of ‘Hardware Development’, both internal and external (e.g. customer) facing.
• Leading and mentoring the Hardware team, via effective line management, operational support and facilitating the ongoing development of the team.
• Hardware development activities including:
o Working with product line, sales, and engineering to understand product specifications.
o Systems engineering interface to interpret product specifications to hardware specifications.
o Hardware design and documentation, verification, validation and design safety.
• Ensuring that hardware development activities follow BorgWarner’s internal and client specific NPI and quality procedures. This will include focus on reviewing, maintaining and improving existing procedures and the development of new procedures where appropriate.
• Identification of methods to improve quality and efficiency of hardware development activities.
• Working to company quality standards.

The Person:

The role requires a strong established leader, who has the engineering credentials and direct hands on experience in related products to be able to lead an experienced team with confidence, ideally gained within either Automotive, Commercial Vehicle, Industrial Controls or Aerospace markets. You should possess a first-class academic record, with a degree in either Electronics or Electrical Engineering and ideally evidence of continued personal development. Solid experience within a Hardware development perspective, covering Power Electronics or Digital/Analogue Electronics is essential. This will be ideally aligned to functional safety standards such as ISO26262, ICE61508 or D0178B, and the development of compliant product solutions within the boundaries of these standards. Candidates should possess outstanding interpersonal skills and organisational qualities, in addition to strong customer facing skills, with a focus on delivering to project budget, specification and timescale milestones. Given extensive internal and external stakeholder interface there will be occasional domestic and international travel.
