The Role:

The BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems Business are now looking to appoint an established Engineering leader, to provide leadership to an experienced Engineering team developing next generation motor controls for use in BorgWarner stand-alone inverters and motor drive systems. These applications range from passenger vehicles to heavy trucks, and form part of a broader systems orientated organisation delivering market leading technical solutions for a global customer base. Reporting directly to the Global Motor Control Manager, the primary purpose of this role will be to lead an experienced team of 6 motor control specialists, and will involve a high degree of direct hands on technical design and development activity, alongside the broader professional management and functional leadership responsibilities within a highly specialist technology silo.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

• Being a figurehead of ‘Motor Control’, both internally and with external customers on occasion.
• Leading and mentoring the Motor Control team, via effective line management, operational support and facilitating the ongoing development of the team.
• Motor Control development activities including:
o Selection, design and implementation of motor control algorithms for a variety of motors.
o Motor control software design approvals.
o Working with broader technical stakeholder groups such as functional safety, electrical machines and transmission engineering, product line management, applications and sales.
o Defining and delivering on product specifications.
• Management of documentation and quality system integrity.
• Supporting program and project delivery objectives.

The Person:

The role requires a strong established leader, who has the engineering credentials and direct hands on experience in Motor Control development to be able to lead an experienced team with confidence, ideally gained within a vehicle related industry sector such as Automotive, Motorsport, Commercial Vehicle or Off-road, however exposure to Industrial Controls, Aerospace, Rail or similar would be considered. You should possess a first-class academic record, with a first degree in either Electronics or Electrical Engineering and an advanced qualification, ideally PhD related to Motor Control. Vector control, real time embedded control and real time C experience is essential, ideally aligned to functional safety standards such as ISO26262.

Candidates should possess outstanding interpersonal skills and organisational qualities, in addition strong professional and technical credibility is vital, aligned ideally with strong project management skills. Given extensive internal stakeholder interface there will be occasional domestic and international travel.
