GEM Attend Wind Energy Conference

Two representatives from GEM Engineering manned a stand at the UK Offshore Wind Supply Chain Event at Newcastle United Football Club on Thursday 17th May 2012. This was the third such event to be held in the North East and it brought together some of the leading companies operating within the industry. The event was held in conjunction with NOF Energy, ENERGI COAST and The Crown Estate.

The event's headline sponsors, Technip and OGN Group, are both based in the North East and are two of the key players in Wind Energy. The UK's wind energy program already produces 1.8 GW of energy per year with future developments expected to produce close to 8GW. This gives rise to significant investment and the creation of many jobs.

A strong panel of speakers provided an insight of the opportunities that lie ahead. Christian Egal CEO of EDF, which is involved in a major development off the Teesside coast, Ray Thompson Business Development Manager, Siemens, David Hodkinson, Vice President UK Business Delivery, Technip and many more gave firsthand accounts of the development of Wind Energy in North East England as well as the wider UK.

The event was very informative and well attended by the North-East business community and provided an opportunity to further our understanding of this rapidly growing sector and enhance professional networks.
