GEM Partnership golfers and a party of non golfers from the team offering moral support once again travelled to Northumberland for the 4th annual pilgrimage played out over 3 days.
The weather played a big part in the scoring again this year over the links and parkland courses, with howling winds and downpours challenging the most robust of swings. Spirits remained high however with the thought of curry and numerous beers keeping the troops going through the worst of it, albiet the non golfers de-camped to the bar on Saturday and Sunday.
The competition this year was close with Rob Mayman - 2011 champion and Rob Dunbar taking the battle to the last hole at Percy Wood yesterday afternoon. Rob Mayman delivered a masterclass in links golf at Dunstanburgh on Saturday bagging 29 points off a handicap of 2 in some pretty terrible conditions to put himself right in contention for his 2nd title. However mr consistent over the weekend - Rob Dunbar held firm on Sunday to win the daily round prize with 28 points and an overall best 2 rounds score of 53 to claim his first GEM Title, despite coming close in previous years. Congratulations Rob, the coveted GEM trophy now resides in the Newcastle Branch for the first time.
