Job Description

Gestamp Newton Aycliffe are looking to recruit a number of Manufacturing Apprentices on a starting salary of £20397.15 (plus shift allowance and overtime) to specialise in manufacturing of chassis products or support of chassis products via machine operation, welding or logistics. We are looking for people who will play a key role in the future of the company and want to develop a career within Gestamp as a multi-disciplined operator.

This is an exciting 12-month opportunity of developing skills in Lean Manufacturing, MIG Welding and Forklift Truck, with the opportunity of developing a long-term career in the organisation. The ideal candidate will be hard working, motivated to do well and have a desire to gain a permanent contract with Gestamp. After successful completion of the 12-month training programme, you will earn a salary of up to £26,073.90 (plus shift allowance and overtime).

Knowledge and Experience Required
• Previous experience carrying out high volume and repetitive tasks or able to demonstrate the ability to carry out such task is preferred.
• To be aware of company’s procedures and follow them, accordingly, specifically ensuring that Health and Safety is of paramount importance.
• Able to carry out basic numeracy and literacy tasks as required to maintain stock, records scores, make notes on downtime and understand information in graph form.
• Ability to solve problems while offering original and practical solutions that challenge fixed ideas.
• Work towards targets to achieve 85% efficiency / performance levels.
• Achieve zero quality defects and be able to inspect and identify and quality defects passed through the process.

Qualifications Required
• Functional Skills Maths and English Level 1 or GCSE grades A- C / 4 or above.

Hours of work
• 37.5 hours.
• 3 shift pattern.
• Overtime may also be required on occasion, including weekends.

Lean Manufacturing Operative (LMO) Apprenticeship
• A Lean Manufacturing Operative will be expected to carry out their work safely and meet the standards demanded in a fast-paced working environment. The LMO course is a fantastic opportunity to develop new skills, knowledge and behaviours.
• Full-time work-based learners will spend 12 months on-programme working towards the apprenticeship standard.
• Gain industry experience within world class training facilities including MIG Welding and Forklift Truck qualifications.
• You will be expected to undertake coursework and improvement activities throughout the duration of the course as part of your off-the-job training.
• You will be allocated mentor within the workplace.
• Learners without English & Maths at a level 2 must achieve a level 2 whilst enrolled on the course.
