GEM Partnership Spotlight – September 2025

Returning for September, it’s our Spotlight series!

In our last spotlight in June, Rob Mayman, one of GEM’s longest serving members of staff was nominated by Director, Maria Miller, which you can read here: https://www.gempartnership.com/gem-partnership-spotlight-august-2025/

For this month, one of our Trainers Brett Egan has nominated one of his apprentices, Tim Longstaff who is a despatch lead driver with Husqvarna.

Brett gives his reason for nominating Tim:

When I first took over Tim’s apprenticeship, Tim was behind with work. In a short space of time, he has been completing all tasks set for him and is now ahead in his progress.

he also has a really good project proposal, which will help increase efficiencies in his area.

I am delighted with the dedication he has been putting into his work, especially on top of Husqvarna being very busy. He is a credit to his company and long may it continue!

We also spoke to Tim’s manager, Kevin Brown about his development:

Tim’s participation in the Level 3 supervision course has had a noticeable and positive impact on his role. He has demonstrated increased confidence in managing day-to-day team responsibilities and has shown improved communication and decision-making skills.

His ability to delegate tasks effectively and provide constructive feedback to team members has enhanced overall team performance.

Additionally, Tim has applied structured approaches to problem-solving and conflict resolution, which has helped to maintain a productive and collaborative working environment.

On-the-job training, such as the one Tim has undertaken, provides significant benefits both to the individual and the organisation. It allows learners to immediately apply new skills and knowledge in a real-world context, reinforcing learning through practical experience.

This method ensures that training is relevant and tailored to actual job requirements, leading to more effective performance improvements. Moreover, it helps to build confidence and engagement among employees, as they can see the direct impact of their development on their work. In Tim’s case, the integration of his learning into his daily responsibilities has been seamless and highly effective.

Finally, we caught up with Tim about his apprenticeship experience so far;

I wanted to undertake an apprenticeship to develop my career and improve myself professionally and learn the skills that will help me do this.

My experience with GEM so far has been fantastic. The support that you receive is great. I know I can talk to my tutor with any issues I am having and ask their opinion on how to approach the task I have been set.

My advice (for anyone considering an apprenticeship) would be to go for it. Whether you are new to employment it will give you the skills to take you forward in your career or older and established within a company it teaches you new skills and gives you new ways of thinking and approaching your job
