GEM Partnership Spotlight – October 2025

In our last spotlight in September, Tim Longstaff, one of our apprentices at Husqvarna was nominated by his trainer, which you can read here: https://www.gempartnership.com/gem-partnership-spotlight-september-2025/
For this month, one of our trainers, Brett has nominated his colleague within the training department, Ian Newton:
Ian recently ran the Great North Run and has been an inspiration for others in pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. He is always a supportive figure and never expects anything in return.
We caught up with Ian regarding his role within the team and his journey with GEM over the last couple of years:
One of the reasons for being nominated, was you’re seen as a supportive figure within your team – what drives you to do this?
I suppose being older and having a lot of work and life experience, I feel a responsibility to support my colleagues, especially in challenging circumstances.
You’ve been with GEM now for around 2 years now, how do you reflect back on that journey?
Well, there have been personal and professional challenges during my time at Gem, and a lot of changes, the majority of which I view as positive and necessary to improve the role and the service we deliver.
