Apprentice Spotlight – December 2023

Future industry leaders

As a recruitment and training provider we’re in the fortunate position of being able to not only provide our partners with talent but also to help train and shape that talent into the future leaders of the industry.

Last month we spoke to Justyna Porabka who is working toward their Level 3 Team Leader / Supervisors Apprenticeship at Glanbia (which you can read here: (https://www.gempartnership.com/apprentice-spotlight-november-2023/).

This month we’re speaking to Sam Weaver who is currently undertaking a Level 3 Team Leader / Supervisors Apprenticeship at Greencroft Bottling:

How do you feel your apprenticeship/learning has helped you develop in your new role?

I feel like my apprenticeship has helped my development within my new role through giving me a further understanding of the theories behind my learning, this deeper understanding of my skills and abilities, allows me to see my own learning in a different perspective and give a further appreciation for the importance of various necessary qualities in my role.

How do you manage your workload against your training?

I manage my workload against my training through the support of my team and my organisation, and their understanding of the importance of a healthy learning/working balance to maximise the quality of my productivity, whilst also ensuring that I have the time to achieve personal goals and objectives.

What were your expectations prior to undertaking the apprenticeship – and do you feel they have been met/exceeded?

Prior to undertaking the apprenticeship, my expectations were to be able to further my own understanding of my role and my responsibilities, my expectations of this have been exceeded through not only gaining this understanding, but also gaining an appreciation of the importance of not only fully understanding my role and responsibilities, but also the importance of the application of my learning in everyday working life for both myself and the wider community of my organisation, and how this application of learning will resonate through to my peers in my organisation.

We also spoke to Alan Armstrong, director of quality at Greencroft Bottling:

The extra skills and confidence Sam has developed through his apprenticeship has helped him incredibly with his new role as tech admin support. He joined our business in October 2018 within our Label department and has consistently shows aptitude and drive to further his knowledge and learning, eventually moving to his new role within the Quality department as Tech Admin Support earlier this year.

Sam has been an excellent addition to our team, working with the department managers to learn and develop the role. There’s no doubt the training Sam receives through Gem and our training department is accelerating his understanding. Great progress so far – keep it up!
