We are currently working with a new client based in Seaham who has an exciting opportunity for a permanent Night Shift Production Supervisor to join their award-winning Food Manufacturing business, this is a great opportunity for people in the local areas to join a company that is looking to invest their time into people’s long-term careers.
The Production Shift Supervisor is a pivotal position responsible for managing all production activities and resources on shift. You will be expected to lead by example, uphold safety and quality standards, and drive operational performance while supporting a positive and inclusive culture.
This role blends hands-on operational management with people management, making it ideal for someone who thrives on challenge, continuous improvement, and team development.
Duties:
Operational
• Coordinate all manufacturing activities during the night shift, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency across lines.
• Monitor and manage shift KPIs, including output, downtime, waste, and labour usage.
• Ensure all production schedules are completed on time and to the highest quality and safety standards.
• Support and maintain strict compliance with HACCP, BRCGS, health & safety, and hygiene procedures.
• Communicate shift performance, challenges, and solutions clearly during handovers.
• Collaborate with planning, technical, warehouse, and engineering teams to resolve issues and maintain operational flow.
• Lead and contribute to continuous improvement projects focusing on waste reduction, line efficiency, and process control.
People Management
• Lead, support, and motivate a team of production operatives, ensuring they work safely and effectively.
• Develop a high-performing team culture with clear expectations and positive reinforcement.
• Actively promote inclusion, respect, and well-being among all staff.
• Handle team management duties such as resource planning, holiday approval, absence management, and performance conversations.
• Escalate disciplinary and grievance matters appropriately and in line with company procedures.
• Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and training of new team members.
Ideal Candidate will have:
• Proven experience in production supervision, ideally within a food or FMCG manufacturing environment.
• Strong working knowledge of manufacturing operations, including planning, OEE, KPIs, quality systems, and Health & Safety and compliance standards.
• Confident communicator and people leader with the ability to influence, coach, and support others.
• High attention to detail, excellent organisation, and a calm, solutions-focused mindset.
• Comfortable working in a dynamic, multicultural environment and promoting an inclusive culture.
• IT literacy (e.g. Excel, production systems) and the ability to maintain and analyse reports.
Additional Information
Location: Seaham
Hours of work:
Monday to Thursday 22.20 p.m. – 6.30 a.m.
Friday 22.30 p.m. – 6.50 a.m.
